England Trip!

We loved our little England trip! It was super nice to have a foreign language break - we had forgotten how much easier it is to get around when you speak the same language and can read the road signs.

We decided to try and see more than just London so we rented a car and spent a couple of days in the Cotswolds (which consists of all these beautiful old towns spread out amongst the rolling hills of the English countryside). It felt so England - we had tea time every day, there were lots of sheep, beautiful architecture, quaint B &B's and pubs galore complete with local old guys. We stayed at this tiny place it only rented out like 8 rooms and was super cute. There were lots of quiet, older people staying at the same place - Carlie was definitely the only kid! She did really great - she has super manners and sits at the table very well. Until one day she announced at breakfast that she needed to go potty. Joe took her back to the room while I sipped my tea in the very quiet dining room with all the old peeps. Next thing I know Carlie comes running in and annouces with arm motions that she, "Had a poop! A really BIG one!" Needless to say it was one of our proudest moments!

We also really enjoyed London. It was just so big and a bit overwhelming - I heard someone say you could live there for a lifetime and still not feel like you saw everything. It was also like any big city with chain stores and a more worldly feel but we did find a great Spanish place with delicious tapas!! We had fun seeing all the sights on a double decker bus!

Enjoing a cupcake from Harrod's that cupcake was just about as big as her head -yum!

Guards at Buckingham Palace - I'm a little worried about the queen's finances what's up with that plywood door?

Carlie running in the park outside of our London hotel.

The Park Lane Hotel - we got lucky with our perfectly located London hotel!

Tower of London.
"Look kids, Big Ben!"

First ride on the Tube!

Westminister Abbey looks beautiful - Joe looks drunk!

Inside the abbey
"Look kids, Big Ben!" and the parliament buildings.

I figured we should visit at least one palace while in England so while out in the countryside we found Blenheim Palace that got great reviews from Rick (yes, Steves). It was sort of a snooze so we made our own fun and visited the cool things they had set up for kids.
Carlie liked the butterfly house - like in her "Fancy Nancy" books.
She loved this little putting green on the grounds of the palace! The dudes that own this place still live there -crazy! And Winston Churchill's mother went into labor while at a party here so he was born in this palace! There was a little old lady looking out her window with biggest smile on her face while Carlie smelled her flowers!

Making a call!

Our seriously cute hotel:
These church doors with 2 big trees on the side are supposedly the inspiration for "The Hobbit" hmmmm?
Enjoying a spot of tea! I loved having tea everyday - Carlie and Joe also really started to like it. Carlie asks for tea all the time now with milk and sugar of course!
Just in case you forgot how to cross the street:

Checking out the view from our little hotel.

Having fun despite a little rain!
