We chose to go to Egypt because we wanted to have warm enough weather to swim and play in the ocean for a relaxing week away together. It is also a super easy direct 4 hour flight from Venice to Sharm El Sheik. While there we just HAD to visit the pyramids and I'm so glad we did! The weather was perfectly warm and the resort we chose on the Sinai Peninsula was beautiful. We truly had a wonderful week. That being said, there were some drawbacks for one thing we just felt sort of tense. There were lots of police force, metal detectors, and armed check points present. It is also hard emotionally and socially to 'relax' in what felts like such a lavish setting when you know right outside of the resort walls people are, living without running water or electricity in homes that have a dirt floor. All of the Egyptian people that we met were so warm and kind - they were especially sweet to Carlie. Many shared stories about their own children proving that no matter our differences - love for our children and family is universal.
We had a driver pick us up at the airport to take us to our resort which was an hour from the airport. He was really nice and tried to help us learn a little Egyptian. He kind of confused us when he suddenly stopped the cab and said, "Friend, picture?" We were like OK? He wanted us to take pictures with him in this random spot - so we did........
Our room was so nice, we had a private terrace that walked out to the pools and the sea. We could also put the cupcake to bed early and sit outside and enjoy the warm breeze.
Enjoying one of the 5 pools at the resort.
We had a private outdoor shower on our back terrace - I don't think Joe ever showered inside!!
Out at a local restaurant in Dahab. All the restaurants are right on the Red Sea, they have comfy couches, no ceilings and are all open air. The service was wonderful and they had the yummiest hummus!
Happy hour! Nothing beats a family cocktail hour :-)! Carlie had her first Shirley Temple and we all played a mean game of Dora Go Fish!
View from our terrace.....
Enjoying a sip of my Sprite and a lollipop - we were on vacation!! We went to a new spot to snorkel one day and there were these Bedouin huts set up along the coast that they let you use as long as you order drinks. We had fun hanging in the shade by the sea. Joe and I took turns snorkeling. We saw lots of different fish and the coral was well preserved and plentiful.
Enjoying more treats - check out the camels walking by behind them!
More camels right on the beach.
Carlie likes being our personal photographer!
We hopped on a flight to Cairo for the day to see the pyramids and had a wonderful day!!
Climbing up the Giza pyramid.
Holding up the pyramids - TADAH!!
'Kissing' the Spinx.
Carlie took this one!
Still smiling after a long day of seeing the sights!
Driving was crazy in Cairo!! I am so glad that we had a driver for the day (and a tour guide and an Egyptolgist)!
